Boulder Box Set

Boulder Box Set is a Heartland Chapter Emmy Award-winning music/entertainment series that features performances captured live in high definition at the ATLAS Institute’s Black Box theater at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

The audio and video recording is state-of-the-art. The artists that are showcased – including the well-established and up-and-coming – share original material representing a wide variety of musical styles. Many of these artists have Colorado roots or other strong connections to the Rocky Mountain region. All have talent that is not to be missed.

The premiere of the ATLAS Boulder Box Set music/entertainment series, which featured folk/rock musicians Andy Hill and Renée Safier, was recognized with a prestigious Heartland Chapter Emmy Award for Daniel Mercure, who was the Rocky Mountain PBS post production director of the show.

The Black Box

The two-story, 2,700 square-foot Black Box performance space, located in the lower basement level (B2) of the Roser ATLAS Building on the University of Colorado Boulder campus, provides the latest in digital technology for performing artists who combine multimedia technology with interdisciplinary dance, theater, music and film or video productions.

In this state-of-the-art environment, students, faculty and visiting artists seamlessly merge traditional art forms with 21st century technology – including multiple HD video projectors and projection surfaces, live video, and a high-end multi-channel sound system and lighting system that are able to provide tremendous flexibility and subtlety – depending on the needs of the artist/producer.

In addition to presenting live performances to theater audiences, the Black Box facility also functions as a sound and video recording studio. It is equipped with a wide array of HD cameras, video/sound recording equipment and software.
